Mercy W., shown holding the sign, is the leader of a group of five borrowers called Love. A 52-year-old married mother of six children who range from 14 to 39 years old, she was not able to attend school due to poverty. All of her children are attending school.

For 25 years, Mercy has been selling charcoal, soap, sugar and cooking oil at the Redlight Market outside Monrovia, Liberia, a business she started with the limited funds she received from her husband and some family members. Mercy plans to use her 8,000 Liberian Dollars portion of this 40,000 Liberian Dollars group loan to buy more charcoal, soap, sugar and cooking oil, hoping to grow her business and make more profit so as to continue to support her family.
