41-year-old K. Medi has been a taxi driver for an amazing twenty-three years. This married father of seven school-going children has been relying on the remuneration from this trade to bring food to his family’s table.

In the Jinja taxi park area where Medi has been operating from for all these years, his reputation and track record are never in question. By all accounts, he is a man with a friendly line of conduct, going by the way he associates with his fellow drivers.

Medi began as an apprentice taxi conductor, bidding his time slowly till he learnt how to drive and eventually become a driver. His desire to learn is part of the reason why he has seen such business longevity. Every month, he says he makes close to 240,000 shillings as profits.

With this loan, Medi says he wants to buy new tires for his taxi.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
