Gilbert M. is 30 years old, married with a 1 year old child. He is a dairy farmer from Litein town in the Rift Valley in Kenya.
Gilbert has been farming for 3 years. He employs one person from the community. His main product is milk which he sells to Kenya Cooperative Creameries in Litein town. He also operates a retail shop in the same area and sells tea in the local market. His main challenges in farming are the fluctuation in prices of milk and climate changes.
Gilbert has requested a loan from Juhudi Kilimo for KES.45,00 to purchase a dairy cow. This loan will enable him acquire a quality dairy cow that will produce enough milk for sale and consumption. In future he would like to build a dairy unit and purchase extra land to plant grass and increase the number of his dairy cows.
Gilbert is grateful to Kiva lenders for their support.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
