A loan of $900 helped buy sacks of fertilizer and hire workers to help clean his fields.

Andres's story

Andrés is a cheerful man, and he is very hard-working. He is 56 years old, and he is married to 46 year old Alejandrina. They have five children, but they only live with three of them in his own house. His children were always the impetus of his life. For them he overcame all obstacles that presented themselves along the way.

For over ten years he and his wife have been growing coffee and bananas. He likes to apply fertilizer to his coffee fields because it helps the productivity of his crop. However, with the high cost of this product, he did not earn what he had hoped to. But, a least he recovered his investment.

In time he plans to increase his planting until he comes to be the most recognized coffee producer in his area. He will become a wholesale merchant.

This is his third loan with MFP. He knows that it is thanks to the way the members of his communal bank work together, making their payments punctually, that they have a good credit history.

He will use the requested 2,500 PEN to buy several bags of fertilizer. He will also hire workers to clean his fields.
