Catherine is married with eight children and six of her children go to school. She takes care of her old mother. Catherine resides and owns a one-room house and the family has access to electricity but no piped water. Catherine owns a store selling charcoal. She buys bags of charcoal from the villages of Luwero district and uses public transport to and from the villages. Catherine sells to all categories of people at retail and wholesale. She wants to use this loan of 600,000/= to buy more bags of charcoal. Catherine has been in this business for 10 years and also with MCDT for 10 years. She doesn’t have any side business apart from this charcoal business. She doesn’t pay rent for her business because she works from her home. She aspires to increase her business and start selling at wholesale only. She joined MCDT because it was near her home. Catherine’s monthly expenses include food and school fees.
