This group is now in its tenth loan cycle. You can say that the group is very responsible, all the members having work activities. One of the members is Señora Petrona, a woman who has sacrificed a lot to take care of her children.

She works collecting products that can be recycled such as paper, plastic, and other materials. Her work consists of leaving her house very early in the morning and walking through the streets in search of things that she can recycle and sell. This is the work that allows her to provide for her children.

At present while walking around she collects her recyclable items in bags, which in quite uncomfortable. She would like to make use of a cart that would help facilitate the transport of the sacks, and that is why she is requesting this loan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
