She left Gaza for the Boane district of Maputo with her parents when she was still quite young. She has owned her own business for more than 5 years. She doesn’t employ any help and has a monthly income of around 9000 Meticais. She uses this income to cover household expenses and occasionally saves some in her bank account as well.
Sonia has never taken out a loan with another bank. She found out about Hluvuku [the Kiva Field Partner] through a friend who also works with the institution. This is her 2nd loan, for the amount of 15,000 Meticais. She plans to use this money to buy construction materials (cement, bars, blocks, iron and other items) in order to continue working on the construction of her home. Her earlier loan was for 5000 Meticais and was used for the same purpose.
She promises to repay the loan as indicated in order to be eligible for other loans later. In the future she would like to apply for more loans to finish her house and offer her family better living conditions.

About Housing Loans
Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
