While each member of the group receives an individual loan, they are all collectively responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members if someone is delinquent or defaults.

Zenaida is married and has one adult child. Zenaida owns and operates a tailoring business, providing general alteration and tailoring services to local community members. She has been engaged in her business for over ten years and earns approximately 4,500 PHP a month.

In 2008, Zenaida joined ASKI to gain access to financial services to help improve her living situation and her ability to engage in business activities. She has successfully repaid a previous loan of 10,000 PHP from ASKI.

Zenaida is requesting a new loan of 12,000 PHP which will be used to purchase additional fabrics and materials. This loan will be her fifth from ASKI. She plans to use the additional revenue generated from the business to financially support immediate members of her family.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
