Shamsiyya Q. is a 38-year-old woman who works as a cosmetologist and hairdresser in a small saloon in Saatli, Azerbaijan. She started working in 2006 when her husband lost his job.
Shamsiyya is married and has three children. Her business was the only financial source for the last four years and it was only several month ago that her husband found a job.
But Shamsiyya is going to increase her income by doing make-up for brides. She applied for 900 AZN to purchase make-up tools and cosmetics.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
