João left Inhambane when he was transferred to Beira Province for work, and in 2009 he was transferred to Maputo. For more than 30 years he has worked for the Ministry of Defense as an electronic engineer. He has no employees and has a salary of 11,957 meticais per month, which he uses for household expenses while managing to save some in his bank account.
He has never had loans from other banks. He learned about Hluvuku through co-workers who are also customers of this institution. This is his first loan. João promises to pay off this loan on time so he can take out other loans. In the future he would like to ask for more loans to continue renovations on his house and to begin a project on his two plots in Bobole and Mulotane neighborhoods.

About Housing Loans
Many poor families cannot afford housing that meets their needs. When you make a housing loan on Kiva, you give people access to flexible capital to obtain or improve their homes. Better housing means better health, sanitation, and even educational outcomes for children. A house can also be much more for entrepreneurs who run businesses out of their homes. In this way, housing and small business loans on Kiva share a common purpose: to alleviate poverty and enable families to enjoy more stable lives.
