Eight people living in the village of Ta Pech in Kandal province have have made a village bank loan group. Mrs. Phorn S. was selected to be the village bank president by the other members. They will each use their portion of the loan for a different purpose.

Mrs. Phorn S. is widow with two children, one of whom is a seamstress in garment factory, while the other is enrolled in a local public school. She is a farmer who owns 0.75-hectare of land to cultivate rice for supporting her family. In the rice field she has faces a problem in that her field is far from an irrigation system. Thus, Mrs. Phorn S. decided to ask for a loan to buy a water machine (irrigation pump).
