Mr Zoumana Koné is a married man who is 53 years old and father to 22 children. He lives with his three wives and their children in a large traditional family in the village of Soromana, in the sub-prefecture of Fakola, in the prefecture of Kolondièba (third administrative region of the Republic of Mali). After leaving school after the first basic cycle (according to the Malian education system), Zoumana Koné tried his hand at several economic activities, notably the sale of clothes, shoes and cups, but he did not have any success so he decided to turn to buying cereals. This activity (which he learnt with his older brother) has been a success and he has a shop to sell his goods. With ten years experience in this activity he is well known and sought after.

Zoumana Koné is on his fifth loan, having repaid the four previous loans without problem. With this loan he wants to buy from producers 1000kg of rice, 500kg of peanuts and 500kg of millet in order to resell them for cash and on a retail basis to retailers and consumers.

With this loan, Mr. Zoumana Koné is counting on making a monthly profit of 100,000FCFA which will be used to extend his shop, to cover the family expenses (health, schooling, food) and to buy some animals.

Monsieur Zoumana Koné est un homme marié de 53 ans et père de 22 enfants qui vit avec ses trois femmes et leurs enfants dans une grande famille traditionnelle dans le village de Soromana, sous-préfecture de Fakola, préfecture de Kolondièba (troisième région administrative de la république Mali).
Ayant abandonné l’école depuis le premier cycle fondamental (système éducatif Malien), Zoumana Koné a tenté plusieurs activités économiques notamment la vente d’habits, de chaussures et de tasses, mais sans succès, alors il décida de s’intéresser à l’achat vente de céréales. Cette activité (qu’il a appris cette activité auprès de son grand-frère) lui réussi et il dispose d’un magasin de vente.
Avec une dixième année d’expérience dans cette activité, il est très connu et sollicité.
Zoumana Koné est à son cinquième prêt après avoir correctement remboursés les quatre précédents.
Il veut acheter avec son prêt, 1000kg de maïs, 500kg d’arachide et 500kg de mil auprès des producteurs pour les revendre au comptant et en détail aux revendeurs et consommateurs.
Avec ce prêt, Monsieur Zoumana Koné compte réaliser un bénéfice mensuel de 100 .000FCFA qui sera utilisé pour agrandir son magasin, assurer les dépenses de la famille (santé, scolarité, nourriture) et acheter des animaux.
