Diego Portugués is a gentleman of 27 years that lives with his wife in a community of Costa Rica called Buena Vista de Rivas de Pérez Zeledón. This community is known for being located in the Valley of the General. Its main economic activities are stockbreeding, agriculture, tourism and commerce. The last two have grown to a large extent offering new work opportunities.

For many years Don Diego has been part of an industrial project based on the production of products from fruits of the area, especially blackberries, from which they produce juice, jellies and yogurt. From the start this project has been very successful, assures Diego.

Due to the strong demand and the importance of sustainable development in this zone, he needs a credit of 666,000 (six hundred sixty-six thousand colones) for the financing of a project that consists of making containers and labels for their products.

Don Diego is an associate of the Business of Communal Credit VISTABAN S.A, one of the 100 associated organizations of EDESA in Costa Rica. This will be his second loan and with it he expects to continue growing on an economic and personal level. Also he emphasizes that, thanks to this type of organization and their facilitating of credit, his business has been successful.

Diego Portugués es un señor de 27 años que vive con su esposa en una comunidad de Costa Rica llamada Buena Vista de Rivas de Pérez Zeledón; está comunidad se destaca por estar ubicada en el Valle del General. Sus principales actividades económicas son la ganadería, la agricultura, Turismo y comercio estos últimos han crecido en gran manera brindando nuevas oportunidades de trabajo.

Hace varios años Don Diego es parte de un proyecto Industrial basado en la producción de productos con frutas de la zona. En especial la mora de la cual producen Jugo, jaleas y yogurt. Desde El inicio este proyecto a sido muy exitoso, asegura Diego.

Debido a la fuerte demanda y la importancia del desarrollo sostenible en esta zona el necesita un crédito de ¢666,000 (seiscientos sesenta y seis mil colones) para el financiamiento de un proyecto que consiste en la elaboración de Envases y etiquetas para sus productos.

Don Diego es socio de la Empresa de Crédito Comunal VISTABAN S.A, una de las 100 organizaciones socias de EDESA en Costa Rica. Este será su segundo préstamo y con él espera continuar creciendo a nivel personal y económico. As a small and relatively young MFI located in Costa Rica, EDESA has difficulty attracting other sources of capital. Many other microfinance funders do not work in Costa Rica, because overall the country is too rich. However, organizations such as EDESA work with extremely marginalized populations in Costa Rica that really need the access to capital that EDESA provides. By funding EDESA, Kiva lenders are allowing the organization to grow and reach more people than they otherwise would be able to reach.
