The Bendición (Blessing) committee was organized approximately a year ago by a group of women who very much want to work and make progress.

They decided to band together to help their families since all of them are members of low-income families; to date, they are doing well.

Most of the women in the committee sell home products in the settlement where they live as well as in downtown San Lorenzo and in other neighborhoods in the city.

Ceferina, for example, has a very unique business: she sells ‘asaditos’ alongside the municipal market.

She and her husband prepare the asaditos (skewers of seasoned grilled meat). Very early in the morning they go to their sales stand to cook and sell their products; they also offer soft-drinks for sale.

She is asking for funds to buy assorted meats: beef, pork, fowl etc. as well as to pay some personal expenses.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
