Maria is a 57 year old single mother. She supports her son with her small restaurant while he attends university studying engineering.
She started her business 8 years ago, but hasn´t always worked in food industry. She used to work in high fashion as a seamstress for 30 years. However, the long history of wars, dictators (particularly that of Alfredo Stroessner which lasted 30 years), and corruption left the Paraguayan economy in shambles, and for lack of work Maria was forced to give up her passion to support her family.
Maria dreams of one day returning to the fashion industry. For now she is trying to be as successful as possible with her restaurant so that she can save to buy sewing machines to begin working in her field once again. She is requesting this loan to purchase more food for the restaurant.
