Benta Akumu O., a 40-year-old lady, is married to Peter Ogol and they have three children: Rodgers, aged 17; Frank, aged 15; and Verusa, aged 12. Benta and her family live in Onyalo town on the outskirts of Kisumu city.
Benta has a clothes stall where she sells second-hand clothes. She has been in this business for the past 10 years. She is applying for her fourth loan after successfully repaying the previous one without any problems thus she has a good credit history. Her customers mainly consist of passersby and other business people. Benta normally buys the bales of clothes from the nearby market and is in need of new stock to enable her to meet her customers' demands.
Her hope is to expand her business and use the profits she makes to buy a new motorbike.
