This photograph of the group "Las Calandrias" was taken in the home of Mrs. Maria Juana B. G., which is located in Santa Rita Tlahuapan, San Salvador el Verde, in Puebla, Mexico.

This group has 11 members. Maria has a business cultivating plants that she started 3 years ago. Maria did not have the opportunity to study, but she has made an effort to give her daughter an education. Her daughter is currently in her 3rd year of high school. She lives in a common-law marriage and this is the first time that she has requested a loan from CREDICOMUN to invest in seeds and land to plant and materials to make her pots.

She is very proud of having requested this loan, which will allow her to have a much greater variety of plants and small trees. In addition, she hopes that with the loan she will have more resources to pay for the education of her daughter, as she wants to see her succeed and have a good career.

Gabriela S. N., in the same group, sells food. She completed her primary studies through the 3rd year. She is divorced and has 2 sons and a daughter who is 6 months old. She has had this business for 4 years, and she requests the loan to buy a stove with several grills to make it easier for her to serve her customers, who return to her family eatery for the flavorful food. At the moment of requesting this loan she is very excited because her current stove is too small. In addition she hopes that with the help of the loan she can continue to support her children.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
