Galu is a married mother of four. Her business is bingo, run by her with help from her sisters. She is one of the founding members of the centre at Ulumasinave, which opened in 2005. She is applying for another loan of $500.00 to help her with the school fees for her kids and other family necessities, as well as to buy supplies for the bingo.
South Pacific Business Development (SPBD) improves conditions for families living in poverty by providing accessible credit, training, and guidance to help them start, grow and maintain micro-businesses, build assets, finance home improvements, and afford to educate their children. 99% of SPBD’s loans go to women, who can borrow in groups to guarantee one another rather than put up collateral.
