Merchde is a 52-year-old married woman and mother of two children. She has been working as a tailor for the past 30 years; she runs this tailoring business from her home to help her husband with household expenses. In addition, after growing up and having their own work, her two children also help the parents with the family income and the big expenses. Merchde offers tailoring services for her customers and she also offers clothing-repair services.
Today, Merchde is asking for a loan of US$ 1,200 to buy a new sewing machine instead of her used one to be able to deliver her tailoring products faster. And that way she will be able to take on more orders from her customers and earn more income.
Due to political and social challenges in Lebanon, personally identifiable attributes entrepreneurs may have been altered to protect their privacy (i.e., blurring portions of the borrower's picture, not indicating a name and location, etc.). Vitas appreciates Kiva lenders' understanding of these challenges and encourages them to continue their support for Lebanon's borrowers.
