Leopoldina says that the freedom of running her own business is therapeutic. Originally from Ecuador, she now lives in the Bronx, NY, with her thirteen-year-old daughter and seventy-year-old mother.
After many years as a factory worker, Leopoldina found a flexible job housekeeping. Eight years ago she decided to start her own business to earn extra income. She came to ACCION USA for a loan in 2002 to start her home-based jewelry sales business. As the mother of a special-needs daughter, running her home-based business allows Leopoldina more time to spend with her daughter.
Recently Leopoldina came to ACCION USA for a loan to purchase more inventory. With her loan she will purchase jewelry from her native country, Ecuador. She has been a long-time client of ACCION USA. She says that she is grateful to have a relationship with ACCION USA for so many years because she has improved her credit score and has been able to provide for her daughter.
Leopoldina is a skilled saleswoman who, despite the economic challenges, continues to prosper. She has seen everyone around her affected by the economic downturn; however she has been adamantly persisting in continuing her business. She loves the freedom it provides her.
