Bakanikina L., age 37, is the president of the Community Bank “Bonne Semence Plus”, which is composed of 26 members united in solidarity to receive loans from Kiva through IMF HOPE RDC with the goal of developing their businesses.

Bakanikina started her business in 2001. She sells fish at the market located west of the city of Kinshasa. She is a loyal client of IMF HOPE RDC who has already received six different loans and has repaid them properly. She intends to use the next loan to buy fish to resell with the aim of increasing her profits. Each day, her business brings in a profit of $10.

Her ambition is to open a cold storage facility. Bakanikina is married and has four children who are between 8 and 9 years old. All of them go to school.

HOPE International has been providing small business loans and savings services to thousands of entrepreneurs in DRC since 2004. HOPE DRC targets small business owners who can use loans to increase their inventories or invest in assets that have the potential to increase their incomes. Funds from Kiva lenders play a major role in expanding access to affordable, flexible capital for micro-entrepreneurs, 80% of whom are women.
