Mallika is a 55-year-old woman living with her husband and two children in the town of Dickwella, Sri Lanka.
Mallika has a business growing bananas, which she runs with her husband, and they have done this for a long time now. The household is entirely dependent on their income from banana cultivation. Over the years, Mallika has developed a good knowledge of agriculture, and considers herself to be an innocent and honest lady.
Mallika is seeking a 50,000 LKR loan from BRAC to expand her enterprise. In fact, this will be Mallika's 3rd loan with BRAC, as she has successfully received and repaid loans in the past. In the future, Mallika and her husband hope to be able to provide employment to another person in the community through the expansion of their business.
