Siem's Group
In this Group: Siem, Hean, Rous, Rous, Chuon
This group of borrowers contains five members.

Mr. Siem S., 36, has been selected to be group leader by the members. He has two children who are studying at the secondary school. He earns a living by driving a motorcycle taxi and also works as a requirement laborer. He is married to Kean Sam, 35, who works selling a few groceries from home.

Recently Siem S. feels upset; he can’t earn much income because his motor taxi often is broken and is not attractive to the customers. To resolve the problem, Siem S. decided to seek a loan to replace his broken taxi.

The other four members of the group are:

Mr. H. is a taxi (Tuk Tuk) driver who requests a loan to replace his old taxi.

Mrs. S. is a single lady selling groceries to earn a living. She needs a loan to accumulate more grocery items.

Mrs. S. sells cooking ingredients from home and she requests a loan to accrue her business capital.

Mrs. Y. is a head chef for other parties. She is asking for a loan to buy an old motorcycle to ride to work. (Mrs. Y. was not available for photographing so her husband is pictured instead.)

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
