"Bella Vista" is a communal bank located in the neighborhood of the same name. It is formed by 10 members, the majority of whom work in informal commerce and other activities to support their families. The majority of the members live on the same street and so they know each other very well.

Rufina was elected president of the association. She is a widow and has a son who helps his mother in every way that she needs, especially when Rufina is selling food to the workers in the brick factory that is in the neighborhood. She also raises and sells dogs. At this date she has 18 dogs that she is raising with a lot of affection. She says that they are almost like children to her, and as such she provides them with a lot of attention. She tells us that she will use the loan requested to increase the capital in her store.

Rogelia is married and makes clothing. She has small children who are school-aged. She is very responsible and hardworking, and with the money from the loan she will buy fabrics at wholesale in order to make more of her products. Like Rogelia, the other members of the group will invest the loan proceeds in their businesses and in a number of cases, will start a new business. In this way they will improve the living conditions of their families.

All of the members are grateful to Emprender and Kiva for the trust provided in granting this loan.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
