Mr. Hoem B. is a 40-year-old married man who lives in Boueng Kroam village in Kandal province. He is the leader of an eight-member group loan offered by Kiva partner, AMK.

Mr. Hoem B. is a farmer who owns a two-hectare field to grow crops. His wife, Mrs. Savorn Cheng, is a vegetable seller who earns a small income to support the family. In order to support his wife's business, Mr. Hoem B. has decided to ask for a loan to buy vegetables for resale and a bicycle for transportation. The couple has six children, two of whom are farmers who help their father, and the other four of whom are students in the public school and also help in their parent's business.

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee.
