The Zhullin communal bank is in the city of Azogues in the central part of the country. This city is renowned for the architecture of its churches, like the one that is located on top of a mountain and the city’s beauty, which have become its main tourist attractions. Its residents are tenacious folk that always seek better days for their families, just like our members do, and they prove this with the daily efforts they put into their work.

María López, 44, lives in the Zhullin neighborhood of Azogues. He has 5 children who are between 25 and 15 years of age. Her first four children are already married; three of them live in Quito. Her 18-year-old daughter is also married and lives with her, sharing not only the roof over their heads but also household expenses. Her youngest daughter is still in secondary school.

Our member has a small restaurant where she shows off her delicious cooking. She also butchers pigs Thursdays and Saturdays to attract more customers. She has been working thus for 15 years non-stop. Her work day is extended; she starts at 6 am and ends at 10 pm because her daughter has a small store in the same locale.

This is her second loan cycle with the foundation and will use these funds to buy pigs, soft-drinks, beer, corn, rice, sugar, etc. to stock her businesses.

Her goal is to have a well-stocked store to provide good customer service.

Rosa C., 58, is another member of the Zhullin communal bank. She lives in her own home with her two, unmarried sons and her husband, who is a farmer. She has a total of 7 children but the others are married and live independently.

Rosa raises chickens and guinea pigs. She learned these skills from her parents. When she has an unexpected financial need, she sells her animals. She found out about the institution and its benefits thanks to a credit promoter. This is her second loan cycle in her communal bank. She will use this new loan to buy guinea pigs and chickens to increase the size of her nursery.

Her dream is to stay healthy and continue working to get ahead with her family.
