Wesley is 34 years old and married with two children, ages four and two, one of whom is in school. He is a dairy farmer near Litein in Western Kenya. He's been farming for three years and sells his milk through the Kenya Cooperative Creameries. He says that the main challenge to his business is providing enough feed from his small farm for his cow.
Wesley already completed a previous loan of 45,000 KES through Juhudi Kilimo, and requested this loan for 70,000 KES to purchase and insure a dairy cow. He says that the loan will provide extra income for his family and he'll be able to pay his school fees. In the future, he would like to get a dairy cow that could produce up to 20 liters a day.
To facilitate a partnership between Kiva and Juhudi Kilimo, K-Rep Group (Juhudi Kilimo’s 100% owner) has guaranteed Kiva funds in the event of institutional default. Lenders should be aware that the risk of borrower default remains borne by the lender.
