K. An, 66, is a widow and lives with her son in the Takeo province. Her son is married already but, so far, her son still lives with her. Since 1980, she has been making and selling palm cakes in the village and is able to make about US$2 of profit a day. Her son, Sem Boren, is a construction worker. On average, he makes US$2 per day as well. K. An is asking for a loan of US$700 so that she can start a new business for her daughter in law. She wants her daughter to operate a grocery store. (K.
