The communal association known as "Suma Sartawi" (we will begin well!!) works in the Focal Center of Villa Exaltación. The group is composed of twelve enthusiastic women and one man, who is learning to get along with the group. The associates have various businesses, according to the needs of the zone where they live. Among these are neighborhood stores with basic products as bread, rice, noodle, matches, and bottled refreshments, a butcher shop, a stall selling snacks at the door of a school, clothing sales, a movie theater, a dressmaking workshop, spinning wool yarn from vicuna and making craft pictures.

The making of craft pictures is the business of Señora Lidia C. Q., a young woman of 23 years who is very kind. She has already completed one loan with the association and desires again to renew her loan to buy more alpaca wool and colored wool for weaving the craft pictures that are her living.

These pictures represent images of mountains, flames, churches, people, and popular markets. Señora Lidia assures us that she can reproduce any image in the weaving. She tells us that her sister-in-law taught her to weave and that she has been able to learn enough to create her own designs. She is married and has two children: a girl and a boy. For now she thinks that is enough and that from now on she will be dedicated to work.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
