Andrea is an individual loan client with Esperanza and her story is representative of her group and of Esperanza's Haitian and Dominican (many of whom recently emigrated to the DR from Haiti) clients generally. Her group is located in Hato Mayor, where running water (none of which is potable) and electricity are unreliable. She makes her home here in a simple, wooden structure with her husband and their child.
Andrea is excited to be taking her fifth loan with Esperanza after having successfully repaid her previous loans and expanded her business. Andrea is a very entrepreneurial individual and she plans to use this loan to invest in both of her businesses:the production of "embutidos" (sausages filled with a variety of meats) and selling clothing. She will purchase meats for the embutidos and blouses, jeans and skirts for the clothing business. She will use the profits to invest in her home by replacing the wooden walls with concrete block, creating a more storm- and pest-resistant living situation. She thanks you all for your support.
