Balakhan A. is 46 years old and sells construction materials in the small village of Agsu city. He is married and has three children. Balakhan has nine years of experience in this field. He rents a store in the crowded square and that’s why his shop is always full of customers. Balakhan applied for a loan amounting to 1600 AZN to purchase more merchandise to increase his income.
Aqroinvest Credit Union was founded by a group of 32 Imishli farmers in 2001, and has grown to become one of the largest credit unions in Azerbaijan. It boasts a portfolio of nearly $5 million and is wholly owned by its more than 3,500 borrowers, as of December 2011.
