Belinda San Jose is a 49-year old mother with one son, Riciy, who is 32 and a welder. She is married to a fisherman, Ricardo San Jose. To add to her husband’s income, Belinda has run a fish vending operating in their village for the past 10 years ago but improving the family’s living condition still remains difficult. The couple has now embarked on a farming business.

Belinda applied for a new loan amounting PHP 45,000.00 to buy fertilizers and insecticides and to “palay” (rice). She wants to buy these items in advance in order to get a lower price and to avoid borrowing money from her neighbor during the planting period. When she borrows from her neighbor, she usually pays back in rice grains after the crop is harvested which is very disadvantageous to her and her husband.

Belinda hopes that, through her loan, she and her husband can save their harvest and get a better price at market. She wants to help support her grand children's education, invest in another rice field, and build a better house for the family.
