The Nuevos Horizontes (New Horizons) Communal Bank is made up of a group of feisty women who are determined to be successful in their work and their daily lives in order to obtain a better future for their families. They all live in the beautiful city of Cuenca, known for its culture, architecture, traditions, people and rich gastronomic delights.

María V. has been a member of the Nuevos Horizontes Communal Bank for three years. Little by little she has grown her agricultural business cultivating vegetables, farming from 8am until 12pm. She also raises chickens, guinea pigs and she has one cow whose milk is for household consumption, although, occasionally she sells it to her friends in the community. She sells what little she grows in the Cuenca’s marketplace.

Our member lives in the parish of Sayausi in the Ramales neighborhood. She is 46 years old and has been divorced for the past 20 years due to the infidelity of her husband. With him she has 5 children between the ages 20 and 27 years old. Her oldest and youngest children work and help her with the household costs. The other three children are married and live independently. From her other relationship, she has two children who are currently 11 and 8 years old. She lives with her four children in her own house.

With the loan that she will receive from the institution, she will buy fertilizer for her fields and pastures in order to grow more produce to sell and for her family to eat. Her dream is to stay healthy in order to continue to work.

El banco comunal Nuevos Horizontes está integrado por un grupo de mujeres luchadoras que están dispuestas a salir adelante en su trabajo y vida cotidiana para entregarles un mejor porvenir a sus familias, todas viven en la ciudad de Cuenca, urbe hermosa por su cultura, arquitectura, tradiciones, su gente y su rica gastronomía.

María V. es socia del banco comunal Nuevos Horizontes hace tres años, con éstos ha incrementado poco a poco su negocio pues ella se dedica a la agricultura cultiva legumbres, hortalizas desde las 8 a.m. hasta las 12 p.m., también cría pollos, cuyes y tiene una vaca pero la leche es para el consumo de su hogar o a veces vende a sus amigas en la comunidad y lo poco que cultiva lo vende en la feria libre (mercado de Cuenca).

Nuestra socia vive en la parroquia Sayausi en el barrio Ramales, tiene 46 años de edad y se encuentra divorciada hace 20 años por infidelidad de su esposo, con él concibió cinco hijos que se encuentran entre 27 y 20 años de edad, sus hijos primero y último trabajan y le ayudan con los gastos del hogar mientras que las tres hijas ya son casadas y viven independientes, de su otra relación tiene dos hijos que ahora tienen 11 y 8 años de edad, con sus cuatro hijos viven en su casa propia.

Con el préstamo que recibirá de la institución va a comprar abono para sus tierras y potreros para cultivar otros productos para la venta y el consumo familiar.
