Pot C. is a humble citizen who currently lives with other family members in a commune of Kampong Chhnang province. She is married with five school-aged children. Her husband helps to support the family by working as a district consultant adviser. Pot C. is a professional Khmer lecturer who earns a fixed salary of $3 per day to be used to feed her family. Beside this, the family cultivates rice during the farming season. In the past, Pot C. hired a cow to help plow her farmland. She is seeking a loan to purchase an ox, so that she can plow the land without paying to rent a cow.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
