Rafael
View original language description ↓
Rafael is 35 years old. He's married with 4 children. He has a small shop in his home where he makes "chipas." Chipa is a traditional type of food in Paraguay. It's similar to bread and it's made with starch, cheese, milk, vegetable oil, etc.

He makes chipas early in the morning, so that he can then go out and sale them all around the barrios (neighborhoods) in the city. Rafael makes sure that he is present whenever there is a school event or political campaign so that he can sell his delicious chipas which are a main delight to the people from Paraguay.

Rafael tells us that this is hard work since he has to work a lot of hours in the day until he sells all of his chipas, and to start all over again the next day. But it doesn't matter because his main goal is to provide for his family and to make sure all their basic necessities are taken care of.

In order to increase production, he would like to build another brick oven, which in the language of Guarani is called "Tatakua". This special type of oven is used by many of the people who make chipa. He is requesting a loan in the amount of $400 USD.
