Señora Noemí García M. is from a small community called Tonalá, in the municipality of Ayutla de los Libres, State of Guerrero, Mexico. In order to get to the community, there is a detour off the highway over 8 km. of rough dirt track, barely usable during the rainy season, before arriving at the main town. She is 29, married with 3 children of 8, 4, and 7 months. For the last 3 years she has been selling fresh cheeses that she makes herself with milk that she buys from small dairies in the area. She also has had a grocery shop for a short while, and she would like to enlarge her business. Although she is married, her husband gives her very little towards expenses since he works at subsistence-level agriculture. Therefore she needs to sell more to generate more income to improve the economic situation of her family. Among other necessities is the purchase of a cheese press in order to diversify her products to sell pressed cheeses, since currently she only sells fresh cheese. If she continues to qualify for more credit, she will be able to buy this machine with the next loan. Before requesting a loan through Fundación Realidad, she was working through a savings bank, but because of bad service she decided to change to Fundación Realidad. For this she had to form a group of 12 persons, each with their own economic activity. The names of the members of the group and their business are below:

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
