Our members belong to the Mujeres En Acción Communal Bank. Some of our members live in the city of Compone, and others live in the city of Anta. The city of Compone is 40 minutes from the city of Cusco.

There are no factories in the city of Compone, the air is fresh, and there is little contamination. It is a beautiful valley where most people work in agriculture and with livestock. Our members work in those activities. For example, Paulino, Cirilo, Gregoria, Antonia, Celia, and Nancy work in agriculture, and Lucilia works with livestock.

Some of the members offer transportation services. For example, Virgilio and Sabino are taxi drivers. Albertina, Doris, and Carlota sell milk. Marlene produces yogurt, and Benedicto sells food.

The members meet every thirty day’s in Avelina’s house. Avelina is 45. She gets up very early to do the household chores; after that she continues with her work. Avelina has a small business where she produces and sells Andean cheese. She has been in the business for several years. It has gone very well for her thanks to the effort she puts into her business. For example, Avelina needs the loan to buy more materials like pots and cheese molds to make her cheese.

The members need the loan to buy more products like fertilizers, seeds, animal feed, and food. This way they will be able to increase their business capital, have greater income, and give their children a better quality of life.

The members appreciate and value the loan, and they promise to pay it on time.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
