Ms. Fatimata Binta S., aged 50, is a commercante (small trader) in Thies, a city about seventy kilometers from the capital, Dakar. She runs a small business selling fabrics and cosmetics.
Ms. S. has two sales points: one at her home which she manages herself and the other in the local market where she has an employee in charge. The loan of 500,000 FCFA will allow her to replenish her stock and hopefully increase sales.
Ms. S. has been in the trade for over twenty years and uses her revenues to help her husband meet the needs of their five children and extended family.
This loan is administered by UIMCEC, a Kiva Field Partner in Senegal since 2008. UIMCEC is a government-regulated microfinance institution whose mission is to improve the revenue and well-being of families through access to financial services, allowing principally women and young adult micro-entrepreneurs living in rural and semi-rural areas to develop their revenue-generating businesses and supporting them in becoming financially self-sufficient.
