Catherine is thirty-nine years old. She is married and has given birth to four children, all of whom are in school. She lives with her husband and children in a rented apartment in a fishing community in the central region of Ghana. Catherine works hard to help her husband provide for the family. She is a food vendor. She prepares and sells kenkey (fermented corn and cassava dough, wrapped in corn or banana leaves) with fried fish. She sells by the roadside and also supplies to other retailers. Catherine buys bags of maize from nearby farming communities. She has been in business for five years and wants a loan to procure bags of maize and other ingredients in bulk to expand her business.
