She joined Ahon SA Hirap Inc. (ASHI), a microfinance institution and Kiva partner in the Philippines, in 2001. For almost eight years in ASHI, she has shown good performance, so she is being trusted by the institution for further loans.
She runs a variety store with a little carenderia (stall selling foods ready to eat). She started her variety store based on her idea of dealing with customers. Her business is growing because the members of the community in her neighborhood like her products and find what they need in her store instead of going to other places. She is requesting a loan of 40,000 Philippine pesos as her eleventh loan from ASHI to pay for items including sacks of rice, white sugar, washed sugar, brown sugar, cigarettes, canned goods, candies, soft drinks, and cooking oil.
She dreams of growing her variety store into a mini-grocery store. Her children are her motivation to continue in her business. She dreams of sending her children to school and hopes that they will complete a degree in college. Iluminada now feels very happy about her work and the service of ASHI and Kiva. Now, the couple is enjoying seeing that the loans from ASHI change their lives and give them bigger chances of making their dreams come true.
