Mrs. Elena P., 41 years old, is married and lives at Maloro, Tangub City. She is married to Joel, a former seaman and now her business partner, and they are blessed with one child.
Elena is engaged in a food business and has a little eatery (“carinderia” ) in their place. She started this business six years ago and now she is earning an average net income of not less than 8,000 PHP a month.
Elena joined Paglaum MPC just a year ago because she is very much interested in our products and services and for our being one of the most outstanding cooperatives in Northern Mindanao and the awarded coop for being “Most Outstanding Cooperative in the Philippines” during the search for the COOP-LGU Partnership Award, 2006.
As a good member of the PDP-LP (Paglaum Development Program for Landless People), a microfinance program of Paglaum MPC, Elena is given the privilege of obtaining 12,000 PHP as her 4th loan to add to the capital of her carinderia business. Her dream is to make her eatery better known and more progressive. She is also hoping that her child will be successful until college for a better future.
About Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative
Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) was founded in 1992 by the beneficiaries, parents and staff of the Paglaum Community Development Foundation to address economic and livelihood activities for sustainability. The organization operates in the northwestern provinces of Mindanao and Visayas.
In the local vernacular, “paglaum” means “hope.” The initial foundation is dedicated to child development through a holistic approach. The goal is to build self-reliance and expand opportunity so the poorest of the poor can help themselves.
