Bih Alian
Bih Alian was born in 1956, is married to a polygamist and the mother of six children. She has suffered from a lot of maltreatment from her polygamous husband who could not provide her and her children with food or pay their school fees. This motivated her to become a member of GHAPE and before receiving her first loan she was trained in business management, marketing techniques and credit discipline. Since then, she has been able to invest and repay all loans with which she raised money to pay school fees for her children and to construct her house.

Given a loan of $1200, she plans to sell cooked food and cultivate crops. With this, she will raise money to pay her children’s school fees and apprentice fees, increase her business and build a house for rent. She plans to pay her loan in 24 months. First loan repayment installment shall be made on the fourth month from the date of disbursement of the loan.

About Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE)

This loan is administered by Grounded and Holistic Approach to People's Empowerment (GHAPE), a non-profit non-government organization based in Bamenda, Cameroon. GHAPE takes a multi-faceted approach in working towards the empowerment of the poor and poverty alleviation. Every client is trained in business management, basic health, life skills, financial management, profits and losses, and family values. Clients are also required to contribute a small amount into a personal savings account; most clients save much more than the minimum requirement. GHAPE instills a sense of family and community among its clients and staff and has developed a strong bond of trust between the organization and its clients.
