Mrs. Preung S. is 32 and the mother of three school-aged kids. Preung S. was not available the day of the photo, so her husband is in the photo instead. Preung S. is a local farmer who has been planting a variety of crops for nine years. She also relies on income from her husband’s work, fish trading. He normally needs to reserve a section of the pond where small fish grow, and he also catches them to sell when the fish are mature. Recently, he has needed more money to supply his business, so Preung S. has requested a loan of $800.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
