The borrower, a divorcée, lives in her own home with her two children on Aspiazu street in the area of Sopocachi in La Paz, Bolivia. She works in a furniture store for a modest salary. She is still studying and needs to finish her dissertation to graduate in business administration. The first loan that IMPRO lent her in November 2006 was to organize her documents and papers; this loan was completely paid on time. The loan she seeks now is to help her finish her thesis, so she can work with more professional ease and thus, find better paying jobs. Her successful payment history with IMPRO qualifies her as a “preferred client” and her current cash flow gives her solvency for this loan and all the personal needs of her children.

About IMPRO

IMPRO is a small non-profit organization that has been offering micro credit to the working poor in the Bolivian cities of La Paz and El Alto since 1995. IMPRO’s goal is to fight poverty by offering loans to small business owners who cannot access credit through the regular banking system due to a lack of guarantees or collateral.

To ensure that everyone has access to credit, IMPRO maintains a low interest rate by minimizing operational costs. IMPRO’s partnership with Kiva, which began in 2007, has allowed IMPRO to expand its services while maintaining these low interest rates.
