This is the first loan cycle for the group, meaning it is the first time they have worked with Kiva partner Fundacion AgroCapital. The members are known for being very united, as they belong to the only labor union in their town, and are very hard-working, punctual and responsible with their obligations. The majority of the members make a living selling clothes and other items (T-shirts, pants for men, women and children; towels, bedspreads). Their area is known for its busy economic activity since it is on the main highway, and the members take advantage with their sales. Because of the economic activity there is enormous business potential and the amount of competition is average, but with the growth in population in the area there will be a growth in demand. The market is not fully utilized, and in a small space a lot of different types of businesses can be found. This loan will be directly used to invest in all the merchandise the members bring in from the main cities, and thus they will be able to grow their businesses. As for the members' experience with the process, the vast majority of them have participated in loan programs from other financial institutions that did not require large guarantees and have demonstrated punctuality with their payments.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
