The “Divine Jesus” cooperative bank is represented by Ms. Marioly and is comprised of 15 members. They are entering into a second loan cycle of demonstrating their responsibility and punctuality with payments. Each one of the members has their own business selling bread, clothes, making and selling handicrafts, and vegetables. Some also sell empanadas, clothes, proviD. transportation services, operate heavy machinery and proviD. in-home laundering services.

Competition is high within the business arena, however the members know how to get ahead with their businesses to save their capital and profits in order to support their families. The loan would be destined to help them increase their merchandise for the Christmas holiday season, when their products are in higher demand. They need capital to buy raw materials, supplies, and merchandise. This will help them increase their sales and, ultimately, their incomes.

In a previous loan cycle, they had problems with a few members that misspent their funds and didn’t know how to manage their money. This led to some loan payment troubles. Those members that did not work well with the team have been removed, and the remaining participants are enthusiastic about continuing to work hard to grow their businesses and improve the quality of life for their families.

Additional Information

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
