Mrs. Chhem C., age 37, is a local tailor who has been skilled in the enterprise since 2004, sewing both traditional and modern clothes for men and ladies who need them for parties and ceremonies. Her husband ( who appears in the picture above) is a Khmer musician who plays for wedding parties. The family lives with their two children, both of whom attend the local public school. Chhem C.'s husband now needs more instruments to perform his musical services, so she is requesting a loan from Kiva’s partner HKL. She purposes to use the rest of the loan to buy an old vehicle for her traveling needs.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
