M. Medina, has been serving for the past 5 months as the Treasurer. She is 49, and a single mother with 4 children. M. has been working for a year selling beauty products from a catalog. With the effort she has put into her work she has been able to buy furniture for her house. She will invest her new loan into buying fixtures. Like all small entrepreneurs, she has many dreams: one of them is to set up a big grocery store.

R. M. Arony has been the Secretary for the past 5 months. She is 23, and in a common-law-marriage. She has 1 son, aged 1 year and 9 months. In the beginning R. worked selling clothes, but for this type of product she needed a big investment and she didn’t have it. She decided to change the type of product and work selling salchipollo(French fries with shredded chicken-typical food of Peru) since she already had too many necessities to cover and therefore needed to make more money. For the last 5 years she has been doing this work, and will invest her next loan was in buying clothing for the Christmas season. R., as with all women entrepreneurs, dreams of having her own clothing store and that her store would be popular with all the customers.

This is a Group Loan

In a group loan, each member of the group receives an individual loan but is part of a larger group of individuals. The group is there to provide support to the members and to provide a system of peer pressure, but groups may or may not be formally bound by a group guarantee. In cases where there is a group guarantee, members of the group are responsible for paying back the loans of their fellow group members in the case of delinquency or default.

Kiva's Field Partners typically feature one borrower from a group. The loan description, sector, and other attributes for a group loan profile are determined by the featured borrower's loan. The other members of the group are not required to use their loans for the same purpose.
