Lep A., 47, is a married woman and the mother of a child who is newly married and has started a new home. To help feed the family, Lep A. owns a medium boat that she uses to transport a few grocery items to sell to people who live along the river. Her husband helps her sell the inventory. To earn extra income, Lep A. will be using her loan to buy a larger amount of fresh fish, which she will turn into fish paste and sell. This will provide her with more income and a comfortable living.
Hattha Kaksekar Limited is one of the largest and most successful microfinance institutions (MFIs) in Cambodia. The organization provides microfinance services to the poor, particularly women, in urban and rural areas. Kiva lenders’ funds will be used to expand the outreach of HKL’s financial services to a greater number of clients in rural areas of Cambodia.
