Blanche N. was born in 1975 in Abomey-Calavi, not far from Cotonou, the economic capital of Benin. Married to Albert Houessou, a motorcycle electrician, Blanche has two children, both in school. Blanche has lived together with her husband and children for nine years in the Cococodji area, close to Cotonou. Blanche ended her education in secondary school. Only Blanche's husband provides for the family. For seven years, Blanche has run a business selling fabric, bags, and shoes through the distribution system. Blanche gets her supplies in Lomé, the capital of Togo, a country bordering Benin. Blanche has already benefited from one loan through ALIDÉ (one of Kiva's field partners), which she repaid properly. To further increase the size of her business and better satisfy her clientele with the upcoming holiday season, Blanche is seeking a second loan through ALIDÉ. Seul le conjoint de Blanche supporte les charges de la famille. Il y a sept ans de cela que Blanche mène comme activité, la vente de tissus, sacs et de chaussures par le système de distribution. Blanche s’approvisionne à Lomé, capitale du Togo, Etat voisin du Bénin. Blanche a déjà bénéficié d’un crédit de ALIDé, crédit qu’elle a bien remboursé. En vue d’augmenter davantage la taille de son activité et de satisfaire plus sa clientèle à l’approche des fêtes, Blanche sollicite un deuxième crédit de ALIDé. Blanche ambitionne ouvrir sa propre boutique pour y vendre ses articles.

Supporters of this loan should be aware that there is some risk of being repaid late. Because the Beninois Ministry of Finance has imposed restrictions on the amount of money Alidé can send to Kiva, the organization can only send monthly repayments in installments smaller than $13,000. This means that some Kiva lenders may receive their repayments late. However, Alidé remains a healthy institution in good standing with its creditors, and Kiva would like to continue working to support its clients.
